Gold for all-Italian design and innovation.
In the impressive setting of the Kazina Palace in Ljubljana, the Grand Prix award ceremony took place during Design Month from 5 October to 5 November 2023. 21 countries participated in this award and 180 candidate products were selected by an international jury of prominent names such as Prof. Ron Nabarro and Arch. Kentaro Takeguchi, who judged Goldeneye-Woodeye designed by MM Design for the MICROTEC Group as the winner in the Product Design category.
The award was presented by Zmago Novak managing director of Zavor Big and in the presence of the Italian Ambassador to Ljubljana Carlo Campanile. The Grand Prix is the Gold version of the Big See award, which has taken on an increasingly international character, contributing to the promotion of creativity in the fields of design, tourism, product and architecture.
The Goldenye-Woodeye project is a collaboration between MM Design, an international strategic and product design studio, partner to many groups and companies in various industrial production sectors, and MICROTEC, a leading company in optical detection for the wood industry. The award-winning scanner, whose shape is reminiscent of a large electronic eye, is characterised by its sophisticated technology and compactness, making it easy to transport and reducing its footprint in the work area.
Goldeneye-Woodeye can capture thousands of images analysing the quality of the boards and highlighting any defects in the wood. In the design and realisation of the product, particular attention was also paid to the sustainability profile thanks to the ease of disassembly with recovery of the raw materials used.
Once again the combination of MM Design and MICROTEC proved to be a winner!
