Inclusive design made in Singapore

"Good Design Research" (GDR) is the initiative wanted by the Design Singapore Council that since 2020 has supported Singaporean designers and companies in developing high environmental and social impact projects. This grant is aimed not only at designers but also at companies interested in offering solutions to everyday challenges, from the design of new mental-health systems for workplaces to the creation of clothes designed for people with reduced mobility.

Among the most significant companies that took part in the program, there is Terra Sol - a sustainability-oriented company based in Singapore - who proposed a challenge to designers and companies to rethink the 53,000 tons of glass produced in Singapore annually and not intended for recycling. Another example is WeCreate Studio, a design consulting firm, which has developed a card game to raise awareness about autism, showing how design can support the most fragile social groups. Finally, among the grant participants there is also WOHA, a design company of international importance, which has managed to integrate functional and aesthetic grab bars into common bathroom accessories.
