The quality of life in italian cities in 2022
The 33rd edition of the study on the Quality of Life produced by Il Sole 24 Ore has found Bologna as the province with the highest standard of living for the fifth time. In second place we find Bolzano, in third Florence. The study is based upon 90 statistical indicators, of which 40 have been updated to take into consideration the events that have influenced the economy and quality of life during 2022.
This conglomeration of variables includes quality of life for young people, women, children, the elderly, urban ecosystems, sports ratios, the ratio of climate health and the IcityRank on digital cities. Data on inflation, supply of renewable energy, redevelopments, energy consumption and electoral participation have also been analyzed to capture a real and current picture of the nation. The study has shown a worsening in metropolitan areas caused by the increase in criminal activity and the considerable rise in rent prices. Furthermore, the well-being of the younger generations has worsened in big cities. Whilst once again, provinces of the south have composed the bottom part of the rankings with the city of Crotone arriving last for the third year in a row.
The province of Monza and Brianza is at the top of the ranking for the quality of life of women, mainly thanks to inclusivity and fairness in workplaces; the pay gap in this area is 7,1%, the lowest figure in Italy. The number of female graduates in 2021 redeems the south positioning Benevento and Avellino in first and second place.
