Living outdoors is a growing choice for many, and outdoor enthusiasts increasingly want proper climate comfort. Plein-AirCon 12V is a unique air conditioning unit designed by MM Design for Indel B. The brief was to create a compact, energy-efficient air conditioner for campers and caravans.
In designing this new air conditioner, MM Design focused primarily on compactness, keeping the unit’s volume small enough to mount on nearly any camper or caravan roof. Compared to existing 220V roof air conditioners for the European motorhome market, OFF is a genuine departure. Its direct current compressor and efficient energy management allow it to run on hot, humid summer nights even off-grid, with no need for an electric generator.
The design balances visible and hidden elements, creating a soft shape that adapts to different vehicle models without losing its identity. OFF stands apart from others models on the market, which tend toward streamlined shapes even though aerodynamics play little role here. Inside, the shape transitions to keep the unit compact while preserving headroom.
A graphic display presents information clearly, and the unit can also be controlled remotely through an app.
Energy efficiency is central to the design. Plein-AirCon runs on 12V and cools the camper’s interior quickly while using minimal power.
OFF is made of injection-moulded plastic, resistant to weathering, and available in multiple colours. A central panel houses an internal light source, giving the product the look of a low-energy skylight.
