Wormy

Is it possible to create new products from those that have already finished their life cycle? It is possible when the right polymer is used, for example HDPE, an amorphous high-density polyethylene polymer, which does not lose its characteristics, not even the structural ones, when it is re-granulated. From these considerations comes a line of products conceived by MM Design for SmartPlast, a new brand that uses second generation materials to print new products.

Palbox is one of the very few companies in Europe capable of molding fruit harvest boxes with injection machines with no less than 5 tons of thrust. In Italy alone, there are more than 7 million in various consortia and more than half in Trentino Alto Adige for apple harvesting. After a life cycle of almost 20 years, these are collected, ground up and regranulated. The new granulate is now available to be injected again, which gives new life to products.

Wormy is a composter for the home or garden and it uses real earthworms within a modular conformation. Earthworms transform organic waste into humus, a highly fertile product capable of handling the trend of growing plants, vegetables and legumes on a person’s balcony or terrace. This makes waste disposal and home cultivation even easier and more sustainable.

Wormy is modular, therefore calibrated according to the quantity of biological waste produced. Palbox, a leading European company in the production of plastic containers, has enthusiastically joined this project, thus demonstrating the company's sensitivity to environmental issues. The creation of a new SmartPlast brand, combined with the proposal of new products designed for different uses which begin from recycled raw material (HDPE), represent a concrete project of the circular economy.
