Design as problem solving
In order to aid the use of this tool in the work place, we studied and developed a product capable of storing the fibreglass or nylon cable feeder, allowing the operator to save time instead of rolling it up by hand.
The study of the product, in addition to the formal and ergonomic aspects, was mainly concentrated on the dynamics incurred whilst winding up the two types of feeder, which are totally different: the nylon feeder tends to roll up around a centre hub, whilst the fibreglass feeder exercises a tension which tends to push it out towards the external walls of the container.
Under the design aspect we wanted to underline the idea of a container-holder, through the development of two shells which protect the area holding the feeder. With its pleasant and round shape, we want to convey to the user, the image of a product which is not just technical but also easy to use and therefore user friendly. For ease of use for both right-handed and left-handed operators, there are insertion holes with different angles according to the hand holding the product.
