INTERFERENCES, Milan Design Week 2018

May 07, 2018

We thank all who participated in the INTERFERENCES, it was an interdisciplinary comparison held by SIGNO and MM Design at the Milan Design Week. They were rich, inspiring evenings full of ideas with a fruitful confrontation between very different figures, united in their desire for new perspectives.

Psychologist Ugo Morelli with And Yet It Creates spoke about the aesthetic experience, he explained saturation as a great obstacle to creativity. With Green Intelligence Alessandro Pozzi, agronomist, presented the natural world and its extraordinary opportunities. Their root system is a formidable network of connections, metaphor of twine knowledges. Beauty is the star in The Rule of Art of photographer Corrado Piccoli, a succession of stunning pictures of in the historic centre of Treviso and of Tobia Scarpa’s work for Benetton Foundation in the restoration of the Church of S. Teonisto. Virginio Briatore, philosopher of design and observer of contemporary languages, talked about the beauty of hospitality. In the age of technology and unstoppable migrations, We Are (still) Guests on this Earth. New Connectivity could be a response to the incredible speed of change which we are exposed explained Massimo Andriolo, an expert in innovation strategies, talking about technological, social, political and economic changes.

INTERFERENCES were pleasant moments of relaxation with good music and toasts to creativity and beauty, including those not yet discovered! A special thank to our friends who have honored us as speakers. Thanks to who worked for the success of our Milan Design Week.

Among all the stands present, the one which stood out for its elegance and sobriety was undoubtedly that of the Bertazzoni company.

Upon entering the pavilion, the visitors felt at ease, surrounded by many colorful steel models of the new line of fitted ovens designed by MM Design Studio.

A complex project given that on the oven’s platform itself at least three different esthetics were developed to address different targets.

INTERFERENCES: Interconnection between knowledge

INTERFERENCES: Interconnection between knowledge

March 29, 2018

What does a psychologist, an agronomist, an economist, a photographer and a philosopher-journalist have in common?

They can intermingle as “INTERFERENCES” – where an unusual mix of thoughts and visions come together in a cycle of 5 meetings, within the evocative SIGNO and MMDesign offices (located on Via San Calimero 13, in the heart of Milan, just a few steps away from State University, and held during the evening events of the Fuorisalone.

Boundaries between professions and knowledge dissolve, giving rise to particular perspectives on topics of great relevance: from plant intelligence to new connectivity, from movement-based cognitive sciences to the "rule of detail art" and hospitality.

The juxtaposition between knowledge and sensation will be evident during INTERFERENCES when we will toast Italian excellence between the notes of classical music and jazz, which will be interpreted by young and enthusiastic musicians.

Design Management Award

Design Management Award

March 22, 2018

The splendid 20th-century framework of Palazzo di Banca Prossima in Milan, hosted the awarding ceremony of the Great Ethical Design award, organized by the historical Plana Association.

Every year, the innovative companies that particularly distinguished themselves are selected and awarded on the basis of strict criteria, by a jury composed of outstanding personages from the design and economic sectors and civil society.

This year the Design Management Prize was instituted for the first time to award the commitment of design studies that stood out particularly for their approach to design, focus on the process and attitude toward the virtuous management of resources.

MM Design was awarded the honorable title, as the first and unique study, which testifies to the commitment of the designers in the three headquarters in Bozen, Milan and São Paulo. The daily dialogues which the designers of the various offices have with each other, make each project even more unique and particular in product design and innovation, with great attention paid to the themes of production, costs, distribution and correct communication with the referral market.

The “creative spirits” team is especially proud of this prize since it underlines the ethical and conscious approach and its management is accomplished with respect to timelines and resources.

The iF 2018 Award Winner awards the capacity of MM Design in its having interpreted design with an original approach, a product so particular as to make it one of a kind.

An exclusive design that innovates and exalts the technological properties of the tripod and its sophisticated mechanisms, with the choice of carbon fiber as material for its features of lightness and structural performance and on which its very original shapes are modeled.

This is MM Design’s strategic approach in creating value: match the industrial productions that should be cost-effective with the investments, with an intervention of the skilled hands of handicraft masters who represent true and proper excellence of the “Made in Italy” productions.

The network of handicraft masters, with which MM Design is in constant dialog and built in the years of a close partnership, stands as a heritage of know-how that allows the creative designers of the studio to imagine in depth, each detail and its best production.

Prestigious recognition for MM Design

Prestigious recognition for MM Design

December 01, 2017

The “Leonardo da Vince” Science and Technique Museum right in the heart of Milan and one of Europe’s most important technical-scientific museums, was the location for the event. It moreover conserves in its halls, the machine of Leonardo who can be defined as one of history’s first designers.

Before a hall brimming with celebrities, journalists, designers and business enterprises, the international and single-theme edition of the Compasso d´Oro prize was awarded this year to Sports.

The team of creative spirits took great pride in the fact that the Compasso D’Oro Honorable Mention was awarded to MM Design for the Strapless Pole design achieved for Scott International, an innovative ski pole which revolutionizes its pole handle features, eliminating the classic string and inserting in its place two wings in material and resemblance, that allow the hand to let go in case of falls. The string, in fact, is in most cases responsible for the breaking of the thumb ligaments, and for those who practice off-track cross country skiing, will not be detached when surprised by an avalanche. The handle was studied to anatomically fit the best hand grip possible, and made up of a dual-thermoplastic component, to obtain utmost comfort when skiing.

It is prestigious recognition for the effort of a team that conceives design as a factor for the improvement of performance and the life of those who use these items. The team has dedicated their studies to Hervé Maneint, Director of the Scott Neve division, who tragically passed away. He had played an important role in this project due to his great experience and competence.

“Pillole di Design” Trends and their scenarios

November 14, 2017

For every company that wants to innovate, it is fundamental to understand and be able to interpret the current trends. These have always been the activities of the Creative Spirits of MM Design and will be developed in the new studio in Milan, in partnership with experts and analysts of the various sectors.

Thanks to the special tools created by our team in many years of experience, we can analyze what we believe to be the more important trends, subdividing them into Lifestyles, generational Trends and Esthetic Technological Trends.

These studies are thus summarized and arranged in maps and moodboards that photograph the new scenarios and become the platform used to produce highly innovative products which take into account the changing needs and new desires.

In Milan, the new MM Design office opens its doors

September 28, 2017

The recently inaugurated facility of the Creative Spirits in Milan.

MM Design has opened its office in Via San Calimero, right in the city center and a short walk from the Cathedral. In this very particular zone that is booming and recovering its popularity, the facility will be dedicated to the encounters with its international and Italian clients.

After the opening of the office in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 2013 and the contacts expanding in Asia, Milan has become for our studio, an excellent meeting point which will offer new partnerships with experts of various sectors.

In the new facility which will be shared with the SIGNO Architecture and Design study (www.signomilano.it), new frameworks will be developed in relation to the trends, new materials and technologies. Simultaneously, project workshops will be organized, and these will focus on the future scenarios and to Design Thinking with the precious participation of experts.

A young team with members who achieved their qualifications at the headquarters in Bolzano, Milan and Sao Paulo, aim to express, also through continuous dialog with one another, new design solutions for future products. In this way, design will be enriched with new elements that become important ingredients for future projects.

Revolution Inside and Outside for TechnoAlpin

Revolution Inside and Outside for TechnoAlpin

April 07, 2017

The presentation of the new snow cannon designed for Technoalpin. The new TR8 is innovation in a nutshell, starting from its design. At the recent international Interalpin fair held in Innsbruck, Austira, the TechnoAlpin company, absolute world leader in the sector of alpine equipment, dedicated a whole stand to present an absolutely new concept for the production of snow on the ski tracks – the snowmaking machine denominated TR8.
A concept that saw the interaction of the creative talents of MM Design with the technicians of the company, and resulted in a highly innovative product, both from the inside as on the outside. The project drew its inspiration from the new internal construction of the turbine engine and the housing of its components to allow the designers to find a distinguishing and original mark that could communicate the technological innovation it contains within.
A mark which is able to show the drive and power of a new propeller, allowing to increase in a remarkable way, the amount of snow produced with respect to the same products of competitors. Some of the elements characterising this design concept are in particular, the optic units inserted in the front crown, the emergency lights integrated in the lateral housing and underlined by the smooth flow of the shape and suction grille of the MeteoStation, that enable to optimally adjust the snowmaking parameters.
